Counselling in East Sussex

On the following pages you will find information about counselling, psychotherapy and supervision and what it can offer you; me and my approach; and what you can expect from therapy sessions with me.

I am a qualified counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor with many years of experience working with both individuals, couples and supervision groups.

At any point please feel free to email me to discuss your needs. I will quickly be able to let you know how I can help and there is no obligation involved during this initial communication.

My therapy room is in Crowborough and is located in a tranquil, garden setting offering a safe, confidential environment.

I offer face to face, online and “walk and talk” therapy sessions. Where appropriate, and if that suits you, I like to work creatively, for example using sand trays, working with images, paints, collage or many other creative tools. I find that working creatively can be really helpful when words alone are not enough.

I also offer creative supervision, either individually or in small groups (max 4). Most supervisees choose to have fortnightly supervision, particularly when first setting up in practice. However, we can discuss your supervision needs and work together accordingly.

People often ask what is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

Broadly the terms “counselling”, “therapy” and “psychotherapy” are similar and refer to the process of meeting with a professionally trained therapist to discuss and help manage personal issues.

A counsellor has specific training in counselling theory and skills as well as experience of face to face counselling. Typically counsellors conduct medium and short term work. A psychotherapist has also trained in counselling theory and skills but generally works in greater depth and thus psychotherapy is often medium to long term.
