About Me - Carole Stilwell

I am a qualified, professional practitioner with many years of experience. I have worked with adults and children in both private practice and voluntary settings including the NHS, Schools and with charities.

I completed a four year training in Transactional Analysis and have received a Diploma in Counselling and have qualified as a Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA(P)), leading to UKCP Registration as a qualified psychotherapist. I am also an accredited member of BACP and have a second Diploma in Integrative Psychosexual Therapy. I completed a Diploma in Supervision over 10 years ago and have many years experience supervising individuals and groups.

I am a professional member of UKATA, EATA, BACP and UKCP and abide by their code of ethics. I am professionally supervised by a qualified supervisor as part of my commitment to ethical practice.

My primary theoretical approach is Transactional Analysis, which I studied for four years. I use person-centred skills in my work and believe that developing a solid therapeutic relationship presents you with very solid foundations for personal change. I also incorporate some creative techniques into my work when appropriate.

What is TA?

Transactional Analysis, or TA as it is often shortened to, was founded by Dr. Eric Berne in the 1950s and has evolved since. He trained as a psychoanalyst but wanted to develop a theoretical approach that used simple language and was accessible to all. It is now a well-established approach used widely in psychotherapy and counselling.

At the heart of Transactional Analysis is the basic philosophy that :

People are OK - every individual has value and worth

Everyone has the capacity to think

People decide their own destiny and these decisions can be changed.
"I believe that everyone deserves and can achieve happiness in their lives"

Counselling and psychotherapy helps people with a wide variety of problems, including:

Anxiety and stress
Bereavement and Loss
Low Self Esteem
Childhood Issues
Relationship Problems
Sexual Problems
Eating Disorders
Relationship Breakup/Divorce
Personal Development
